Day 1: Athens to Mesolonghi and Ioannina
Your journey begins early in the morning, departing from Athens and heading northwest toward Mesolonghi. The drive offers scenic views and the option to stop for a quick coffee in the picturesque seaside town of Nafpaktos. By late morning, you arrive in Mesolonghi, a town famous for its rich history and its beautiful lagoon.
Here, you’ll experience your first ouzo tasting, at a local distillery with history more than 100 years. After the tasting enjoy a lunch at a taverna by the water, where the air is infused with sea salt and the slow rhythm of local life. We recommend that you try the ‘avgotaraho’ delicacy, which is made from the salt-cured and dried roe of grey mullet.
In the afternoon, you continue the scenic drive north to Ioannina, weaving through the mountains of Epirus. After checking in at your hotel, you can have a leisure walk by the lake and go for dinner at a traditional taverna to try the local tsipouro.

A visit to the Katogi Averoff winery and tsipouro cellar introduces you to the heart of local distillation. You’ll enjoy a guided tour of the production area and cellar, followed by a tasting that highlights both young and aged varieties of tsipouro.
Continue your tour towards Meteora, one of Greece’s most breathtaking and spiritual destinations, known for its monasteries perched atop towering rock pillars. This UNESCO World Heritage Site combines stunning natural beauty with centuries of religious tradition. Here you will have a guided tour at two of the active monasteries, each offering panoramic views, exquisite frescoes, and a deep sense of tranquility.

Day 3: Meteora to Volos and Athens
After an early breakfast, you begin your descent from the mountains as you make your way toward Volos, a city famed for its ouzeris and its connection to the myth of Jason and the Argonauts, is your final tasting destination.
Arriving by midday, you head straight to the city’s bustling waterfront to experience its renowned ouzo culture, where ouzo flows freely and is always accompanied by a steady stream of inventive meze. Here, you’ll taste some of Greece’s best-known ouzo labels, including Tyrnavos and Pilavas, while soaking in the laid-back vibe of the city.
