Destination

Day 1: Athens to Nafplio

Begin your journey in Athens with an early morning departure towards Nafplio, Greece’s first capital, which you will reach by crossing the famous Corinth Canal, which symbolizes the innovative spirit of ancient and modern Greece, offering a glimpse into both the country’s engineering history and its natural beauty. You will have the chance to stop for a short photo stop, before continuing your tour.

Upon arrival, visit Palamidi Fortress, an impressive Venetian castle perched above the town, offering breathtaking views of the Argolic Gulf. Descend to explore the charming old town with its neoclassical mansions and picturesque squares. In the afternoon, head to Bourtzi, the fortress on a small islet in the harbor, originally built by the Venetians. Spend the evening enjoying seafood at a seaside taverna.

Leave Nafplio and drive towards Sparti, where you can visit the Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil, which offers you a glimpse of the culture, history and technology of the olive and olive oil production in the Greek realm, from prehistoric times to the early 20th century. The Museum’s objective is to highlight the ineffable relation of the olive with the identity of our country and, more generally, the Mediterranean basin. You will then visit the Acropolis of Ancient Sparta, and while much of the original city is lost to time, the archaeological site provides a fascinating insight into the military might and rich culture that defined this storied civilization. After a short stop for photos at the statue of Leonidas, the legendary King of Sparta, you will visit  Mystras, a UNESCO-listed Byzantine citadel near Sparta. Wander through its medieval ruins, discovering the fortified palaces, monasteries, and churches adorned with well-preserved frescoes. Climb to the upper fortress for panoramic views of the surrounding valley. After exploring, relax in a traditional taverna nearby before an overnight stay in the area.

Continue south to Monemvasia, the legendary “Gibraltar of the East.” Enter the fortified town through its only gate and stroll along the narrow-cobbled streets lined with stone-built mansions and Byzantine churches. Visit the Upper Town for spectacular views and explore the ruins of the fortress and Agia Sofia, a 12th-century church perched on the cliffside.

Depart Monemvasia and drive towards the Diros Caves, one of Greece’s most spectacular natural wonders. Take a boat ride through the subterranean lake, marveling at the stunning stalactites and stalagmites. Continue into the Mani Peninsula, famous for its tower houses and rugged landscapes. Visit the fortified village of Vatheia and admire its unique stone architecture. Spend the night in the Mani region, experiencing its distinctive charm and traditional cuisine.

Accommodation in Mani at 4* or Boutique Hotel

Head west toward Kalamata, where you can take a short stop at the 13th-century Kalamata Castle, which offers panoramic views of the Messinian Gulf. You will then visit Koroni Castle, located on the picturesque southern tip of the Peloponnese. The castle is a well-preserved Venetian fortress that dates back to the 13th century. Perched on a hill with stunning views of the Ionian Sea, the castle offers visitors a chance to explore its ancient walls, towers, and gates. Inside, you’ll find remnants of medieval structures, including a Byzantine-era chapel. Continue to Pylos, a picturesque town with a rich naval history. Explore Niokastro, the “New Castle,” built by the Ottomans in the 16th century, which now houses an archaeological museum.

Accommodation in Pylos at 4* or Boutique Hotel

Depart Pylos and drive to Methoni, a charming seaside town, home to the impressive Methoni Castle, a well-preserved fortress with a rich history. Built by the Venetians in the 13th century, the castle is known for its massive walls, picturesque towers, and the iconic Bourtzi tower, which stands on a small islet connected to the main fort by a causeway. Offering breathtaking views of the Ionian Sea, Methoni Castle was once a strategic stronghold and an important port. You then continue north to Chlemoutsi Castle, a well-preserved Frankish fortress dating back to the 13th century, located in the western Peloponnese. Walk through its massive stone walls and admire its strategic hilltop position. In the afternoon, cross the Rio-Antirrio Bridge into central Greece and arrive in Nafpaktos, a beautiful seaside town with a Venetian harbor. Visit Nafpaktos Castle, an impressive fortress that played a significant role in the Battle of Lepanto. Stroll along the charming waterfront before spending the night in Nafpaktos.

Enjoy a leisurely morning in Nafpaktos before beginning your journey back to Athens. You will continue with a stop in Delphi once home to the famous Oracle of Delphi, where the priestess Pythia delivered prophecies in the Temple of Apollo. Visitors can explore the ruins of the Temple of Apollo, the Ancient Theater, and the Stadium, which once hosted the Pythian Games. The site offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valley and mountains, creating a powerful sense of ancient mysticism. The Archaeological Museum nearby houses remarkable artifacts, including the Charioteer of Delphi, one of the finest ancient Greek statues.
