Day 1: Athens to Epidaurus Mycenae and Nafplio
Your dream tour begins with an early pickup in the morning from your designated point in Athens with a private vehicle and an English-speaking driver. As you depart from Athens and travel along the coastal road of the Saronic Gulf, your first stop is at the Corinth Canal, an impressive engineering marvel that connects the Aegean with the Ionian Sea. After a short break for photos, the tour continues to the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus, renowned for its exceptional acoustics and rich history tied to Asclepius, the God of Medicine. Your private expert guide will help you explore the Archaeological Site and learn about its history until the present day. You will then head toward Mycenae, the Legendary Kingdom of Agamemnon. Here, you will walk with your guide through the Lion’s Gate, see the Royal Tombs, and visit the Treasury of Atreus.
After a morning filled with history and archaeology, you proceed to Nafplio, a charming coastal town with Venetian and neoclassical influences. Upon arrival, you can stroll through the picturesque streets, visit Syntagma Square, or admire the view from Palamidi Fortress. We suggest a leisurely lunch at a seaside taverna, that offers a taste of local Greek cuisine before checking in at the hotel. You will have the afternoon free for exploration, whether wandering through boutique shops, enjoying a coffee at one of the many charming cafés, or taking a short boat ride to the Fortress of Bourtzi. As the sun sets, you can have dinner at a traditional restaurant with a view of the illuminated fortress, the perfect end to the day.
Accommodation in Nafplio at 4* or Boutique Hotel
Day 2: Nafplio to Sparta, Mystras and return to Athens
The second day begins with an early departure toward Sparta, a city deeply tied to Greece’s legendary warrior culture. Upon arrival, you can visit the ruins of the Ancient Acropolis, where political and social activities once took place and continue to take photos at the statue of Leonidas, the Legendary King of Sparta. You will then head to the nearby Byzantine city of Mystras. This UNESCO World Heritage site, nestled on the slopes of Mount Taygetos, offers an enchanting glimpse into medieval Greece with its well-preserved palaces, monasteries, and stunning panoramic views. Your expert guide will help you through the ancient ruins, show you the intricate frescoes in the churches, and allow you to immerse yourselves in the history of this once-thriving Byzantine capital.
Following the visit to Mystras, the experience continues with a stop at Sparta’s Olive Oil Museum, where you can gain insight into Greece’s deep-rooted olive cultivation tradition. You learn about the historical production of olive oil, its significance in Greek culture, and the role it plays in Mediterranean cuisine.
The return journey to Athens takes travelers through the scenic landscapes of the Peloponnese, offering time to relax and reflect on the historical and cultural highlights of the trip. Arrival in Athens is expected in the evening, marking the end of an enriching two-day exploration of Greece’s Ancient Wonders.
